What You Should Include in Your Villa Gallery
Villa Vision Builders · Property photography
Imagine a guest opens your villa page and sees the pool, a terrace, a bedroom, then five more pool angles. The property looks beautiful, but they may still be guessing how the home fits their group. A polished gallery can leave important questions unanswered.
Before arranging a new shoot or rebuilding the page, review the photos you already have. For each one, ask: What does this help a guest understand? Then check that the answer is true.
1. Give the first image one clear job
Choose an opening photo that introduces this property honestly. It might show the exterior, a view, a pool or an important interior. The best choice depends on the home. Check that the image matches the page title and that a guest can tell what part of the property they are seeing. Use the opening text to explain anything the picture cannot make clear.
My professional view is that good property photography can be one of the highest-return investments for a rental business. The right priority depends on the property, the business and the market. This guide helps you get more clarity from the photos you already have before deciding what else to invest in.
2. Show a route through the stay
After the opening image, help a guest build a picture of the home. A useful sequence may move from the setting and arrival to shared spaces, bedrooms, bathrooms and distinctive details. Change the order if another route explains your property better.
If the living room opens onto an outdoor dining area, show those spaces near each other. Separate photos may not explain how they connect. One vacation-rental website guide also recommends arranging photos in the order a guest would walk through the home. That is a useful starting point, not a required floor-plan format. Its suggested count of 12 to 20 images is that guide’s recommendation, not a universal rule.
3. Put the facts beside the photos
A photo can show a bed. It cannot reliably tell guests whether the room is private, whether stairs are required, or whether someone must pass through another bedroom to reach it. Explain those details in text.
Do the same for a pool, view, terrace or service. Check whether the space is shared, when an amenity is available, what is included, and how a location claim relates to the actual property. Ask the person who manages the home to verify each fact.
Google’s Hotel Center photo recommendations call for accurate images and useful property information. Its minimum photo count applies to vacation-rental listings submitted to Hotel Center, not to a direct-booking website. Airbnb has its own photo-tour guidance and listing-accuracy rules. Treat those as Airbnb rules, not website specifications.
4. Remove repetition and find the gaps
In the hypothetical gallery above, repeated pool angles do not show how the shared living space connects to the terrace or whether the bedrooms are private. Use these questions to review your own page:
- What guest question does each photo answer?
- Is another image doing the same job?
- Is an important space, connection or feature missing?
- Does the caption need to explain privacy, access or availability?
Keep a photo when it adds useful context or helps guests decide whether the property suits their group. Do not add images just to make the gallery longer.
5. Check the page on a phone
Open the actual website on a phone. A crop can hide the feature that made a photo useful. A caption may be too small or detached from its image. Scroll the gallery in order and check the crop, caption and transition from one space to the next. If a photo could create the wrong impression, explain the detail beside it.
